Jack O Brian - New Lines / New Love

Despite being top in my art class and a flair for body form illustration, at the age of 17 the only thing i was concerned about was how i could disguise my twice weekly hangover at school, which lessons i could miss and how i could finish an a level art project and still make it out that night... But for illustrator Jack O'Brien its a different story....

A mixture of materials, layers, paint and illustration - his work has a beautiful intricate simplicity. His fascinations lie within society divides, the media and the concept of celebirty but this aside his works stand alone as balanced, beautiful pieces of illustrative art. He's only 17 but already had heaps of interest as well as working for one of my favourite little labels Brat&Suzie designing some of the graphics for their tees. This kid is good and look forward to seeing more and hopefully getting a special Brat&Suzie/Jack O'Brien tee...maybe a sketch of me drunk?

GoBad NoMad is the creative umbrella under which this still-at-college illustrator sits....the outlet in which he pursues his freelance career so check out his site for more....

p.s if your wondering the ending to the story above - i didnt finish it, i was late for the exam the next day and i caused my art teacher much heartache! But still got my A!just.

LOST VILLAGES

Ohhh next exhibition coming from the Orange Dot Gallery....2 weeks only but worth a little look.

In the early months of 2010 photographer Sam Seager packed his bag and headed off to Japan for a 3 month, 6500km trek through rural Japan to discover and capture the vast number of 'Lost Villages' - communities on the brink of destruction. Sounds kinda depressing but the result is a delicate pictorial look into the forgotten cultures and people. Both beautiful, sad, moving and insightful.

GET IT ON

Tomorrow is what i normally like to call hump day (wednesday - the midweek hump blues) but today it already feels like hump wednesday - if i get through today its almost the weekend!!!wooo. SO in light of hump 'tuesday', some marketing genius and to bring some laughter into this rainy shitty day ....check out the new Durex advert.(and if your really sad like me check out the outtakes on you tube!

Double Denim Records

A new label and blog set up by Jack and Hari (2 guys who know their shizzle!) they have just released their first 7" - which despite their under the radar promotion has been selling liek hot cakes! I love Double Denim Records for the fact that 1. their music choices are always spot on little hidden gems. 2. They dont bore you with endless text (like me!) 3. even if you don't like the music - its one of the best looking blogs around.

Check out the site for yourself and if your quick enough you may still be able to pick up their first release - split with Blackbird Blackbird: Pure/So Sorry, Girl + PaoPao Feat Prizes: Liberia (only 500 limited) online, instore at rough trade and Puregroove or at the Orange Dot Gallery.
